EducationCarnegie Mellon University - Bachelors, Mathematical Science
ExperienceI am a math tutor, but I understand what students are going through when they have difficulties learning math. I always earned high grades, but it was never easy. I can keep up with lectures and I had to ask a lot of questions in the classroom that other students thought were obvious. I was always at office hours trying to figure out what we covered in the classroom. I was persistent and I worked hard, and with help from a lot of people I was able to experience success. Eventually I figured out how I learned best, and I was able to understand math effectively. I also realize that everyone can learn math if they find the right learning methodology. I went to Carnegie Mellon University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in math medical science, and I worked as a math tutor on campus. I work with students who are already good of math, but I also worked with fine arts students and humanities students who didn't enjoy math at all. I realized that every student learns differently and struggles in different ways, and I was able to figure out how to adapt to each student and help them with their needs. After I graduated, I worked as an actuary in the corporate world, and I really refined my ability to explain complex concepts in ways that were easy to understand. I also trained employees, and I developed listening skills and patience through this. Whether in a professional capacity in the business world or as a tutor, it's always very satisfying to help students reach the moment where they light up as they understand something. I'm looking forward to helping new students reach this moment and experience success.
